Sound financial management is critical to building sustainable growth and success for any business. Kouga Wind Farm is no different, and our Financial Manager, Shereen Sobotker, provides serious accounting skills and clear-thinking control when it comes to our payment processes. Meet Shereen:
Q: Please tell us a bit about yourself.
A: I grew up in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town. I enjoy hiking and spending time with my family.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
A: I would like to travel locally to Durban. I’ve heard so much about uShaka Marine World and the wonderful Drakensberg Mountain accommodation.
Q: How long have you been working for Kouga Wind Farm?
A: 4 years and 10 months.
Q: What attracted you to apply for a position at Kouga Wind Farm?
A: I was invited to apply for the job by a former colleague.
Q: Please tell us a bit about your daily duties – what is your role in the team?
A: As the Financial Manager, my role is the overall management of finances through development, approval, implementation and maintenance of all matters directly related to the accounting function. I’m responsible for ensuring financial deadlines and obligations are met, such as supplier payments, contract compliance and customer billing, to name a few.
Q: What have you learned about renewable energy since working at Kouga Wind Farm and how has it changed you or your behaviour?
A: I’ve learned that renewable energy is not a ‘nice to have’, but rather a must. We need to get serious about preserving our planet for the generations that must still come. Renewable energy –whether solar, wind or hydropower –must be given much more thought by governments.
